NineteenSeventySomething aims to visually fabricate a life inspired by a romanticised view of the 1960s and 1970s, through use of photography, moving image and collage. Geared towards communicating a ‘retro’ aesthetic, the accuracy of the portrayal of the era is forfeited, and the ability to pinpoint the exact year the imagery purports to originate from is diminished. Seemingly driven by a sense of nostalgia, the imprecision of the project, and exclusion of the broader socio-political attitudes of the time, brings the phrase ‘looking through rose-tinted glasses’ to mind.
